An Italian Adventure- Rome

It's no secret that I love to read blogs. I had been reading so many blogs about travel and I knew I had to go to Italy. This would be a trip of a lifetime! Caleb and I discussed future trips that we wanted to make and he knew I wanted to go to Italy before kids, so he said to me with a smile, "book it." An so back to the blogs I went where I used every recommendation and just began booking hotels, air bnbs, and activities.

I planned out each day by the date, where we were staying, how we would travel, and what activities were a must do. The whole time we stayed in Hotel Milton Roma. We LOVED this hotel. It was a splurge, but very necessary. It was clean and the staff was extremely helpful. It was a nice, safe place to come back to after long days of sight-seeing. & not to mention the wifi was great. This was important because this was how we booked and made our way around to things! We traveled mostly by the subway in Rome. It was fairly easy to figure out and we got really good at it. Except that one time at rush hour! Such a disappointment!

Here's what we did:

Day #1: Arrive in Rome *DO NOT SLEEP; check in hotel Roman Forum/Palatine Hill/Colosseum

Day #2: Rome-Pompeii

Climb Mt Vesuvius; pizza in Naples; tour of Pompeii *After talking with our friends Sarah Beth and Jeff, Caleb said Pompeii is a must see. And I totally agreed! Very fascinating.

Day #3: Rome/Vatican City

Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel; mail postcards

Visit St. Peter's Basilica; climbed the thousands of stairs to the duomo for view; Villa Borghese Gardens

Day #4: Rome

Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Peter and Paul’s cell- Marmatine Prison, & more basilicas. Afternoon: Ride around Villa Borghese Gardens and eat gelato- so romantic!

*This day we were supposed to have a cooking class, but sadly we couldn't catch the packed subway and ended up being late and our chef was gone. Remember what I said about rush hour...

Our overall view of Rome was that it was pretty dirty, but had amazing old, iconic structures that can't be beat. We also really loved the park as a getaway from the busy city. It's food & gelato was also on point! That deserves a post all on it's own!
